Beverley Minster Christmas Tree Festival - 5 - 9 December 2018

We are so thrilled and humbled that our tree "Angel of Mine Forever Loved" won the 2018 Beverley Minster Christmas Tree Festival. Thank you to everyone who knitted an angel or voted for us.

Christmas Party for Siblings - Saturday 8 December 2018 2.00 - 4.00pm 

Following on from our previous successful Christmas parties for children who have lost siblings due to stillbirth or neonatal death we held another party this year on Saturday 8 December between 2.00pm and 4.00pm at St Andrew's Church Hall.

Christmas Candlelight Service - Sunday 16 December 2018 2.00pm 

The 2018 Christmas Candlelight Memorial Service took place on Sunday 16 December at 2pm at the Living Hope Church at The Ignite Centre, Linnaeus Street, HU3 2QA.

Babyloss Awareness Week "Shine a light for you" - Sunday 14 October 2018 6.30pm

Thank you to the incredible amount of people who came and supported our event called Shine a Light For You.

We met in the car park near the windmill on the Hessle Foreshore by the entrance to the Humber Bridge Country Park to remember our babies and all babies gone too soon. People were provided with a pink or blue torch which we shone in the darkness in memory of our babies. The torch was for people to keep and may it always shine bright for your baby. ♥ 

After a few words by our Chair, Maggie, we had some refreshments at the Humber Country Park Inn 

BLAW - Random Acts of Kindness

We supported the national Sands initiative of random acts of kindness for Babyloss awareness week. This initiative encouraged people to "deliver" 15 random acts of kindness in their community during baby loss awareness week, for the 15 babies who die each day in the UK. These could be just for friends, family or colleagues or you could leave them in public places for strangers to find. They could be whatever felt right for you: some ideas are sweets, small candles, forget me not sweets, home made cakes but really the list is endless. We want this to bring people joy and raise awareness of baby loss.

We closed Sands Awarness Month by releasing butterflies in memory of all beautiful babies gone too soon at The Humber Bridge. Thank you to all who joined us for this very special occasion.

Pete's 66km bike sportive - 18 June 2017

Pete Jackson completed a sportive 66km bike ride in memory of his daughter Alicia Rose Jackson on 18th June 2017. Thank you for raising funds and awareness for us.

Sands Awareness Month Event "15 babies" - Saturday 24 June 2017 10.00am - 4.00pm

We marked this year's Sands awareness month campaign and its message "15 babies a day die in the UK" with a stall in St Stephen's Shopping Centre (just opposite Tesco). Our stall had information, a hamper to raffle off, a name the teddy prize and a guess the sweets jar. Winners were contacted by text. Congratulations to Tracey (hamper), Poppy (teddy) and Raylichia (sweets).

Lifestyle 2016 Making a difference - donation to HEY Sands by a group of children from Keyingham

"Lifestyle 2016 Making a difference" is scheme organised and run by Humberside Police that encourages thousands of 10-18 year olds to register as groups and undertake projects that benefit their local area. Five children from Keyingham registered as the Giving Group and managed to raise an amazing £639 for Hull and East Yorkshire Sands. This is an absolutely amazing achievement so a huge, heartfelt thank you to Molly Kirk, Ella Garnett, Tiffany Allinson, Jake Overton and Sebastian Hague. Really humbled by your fundraising efforts and thank you so much for choosing us.

Midnight Walk across the Humber Bridge - Friday 5 August

This event was organised by Andy, Cat and family in memory of precious baby Iris and involved a midnight walk across the Humber Bridge. Thank you so very much to Andy and his family for organising this.

Baby Loss Awareness Week: 9 - 15 October 2014

The 9th-15th October is Baby Loss Awareness Week. Throughout the week bereaved parents can commemorate their babies’ all-too-brief lives, knowing that thousands of parents elsewhere in the world will be doing the same. The week also provides a crucial opportunity for people to talk openly about the subject of stillbirth and neonatal death and raise awareness of an issue that needs more attention.

The week ends with Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day on 15th October. On this day, we would like to invite you to take part in the global 'Wave of Light' to remember all the babies that died during pregnancy, at, during or after birth. Simply light a candle at 7pm and leave it burning for at least 1 hour. This can be done individually or in a group, at home or in a communal space. Wherever you do this, you will be joining a wave of light uniting the world in honour of those babies who lit up our lives for such a short time.

An annual remembrance service is held each year at The Sands Garden at the National Memorial Arboretum. Triathlon challenge in aid of Hull Sands and Abbie's Fund - 18 May 2014

A number of bereaved parents took part in the Driffield Triathlon 2014 this year in aid of Hull Sands and Abbie's Fund. The event consisted of a 400m swim, 18km bike ride and a 5km run and they are also partook in various other fundraising activities until the event, such as sponsored exercise bike spin at Matalan at Kingswood in Hull where they also had collection boxes at the tills. The proceeds from the event will be equally split between Abbie's Fund and Hull Sands.

Nags Head Pub Quiz Night - 9 May 2014

Thank you so much to the Nags Head, Preston who held a pub quiz night and raised £210 for us. Fantastic amount which is much appreciated!

Lempicka Charity Evening - Monday 30 December 2013 7.30pm

The free chocolate and wine tasting evening took place at Lempicka at 14 Wednesday Market, Beverley and the buffet and drinks were available in Lempicka Café, 13 Wednesday Market. Thank you to everyone who made a donation to Hull Sands during the evening and for Lempicka for organising the event.

"Love You Forever" walk - Saturday 15 June 2013

Two friends walked the Hull to Hornsea rail trail on Saturday 15 June 2013 to remember loved ones lost and to celebrate the birth of special "rainbow babies". The walk was just over 11 miles long and took a little over three and a half hours. Proceeds from the event have been split, with 50% going to Dove House Hospice and 50% to Abbie's Fund. Approximately £300 has been raised.

The Leeman family's annual walk in memory of George Leeman - Sunday 9 June 2013

Our beautiful baby boy George was delivered stillborn on the 12 June 2008. As a family we remember George by arranging this walk and promoting stillbirth, and the research that is required in this country to prevent such tragedies.

The walk took place on Sunday 9 June at 2.00pm through the beautiful Welton Dale. Please note the family were not raising money this year, although welcomed donations to SANDS or Hull SANDS.

Babyloss Awareness Day Balloon Release - 15 October 11.30am

Please join us if you can for an informal balloon release to remember all our babies who had to leave us too soon. This year's balloon release will be held in Queens Gardens (meet towards the middle of the park, the balloons will be a give-away I'm sure). Please bring a balloon for your angel and we will release them all together. If you cannot make it but would like us to release a balloon for your angel, please contact us via admin@hull-sands.org.uk. All members of your family are welcome.

Pragnya charity fundraising event - Saturday 15 September 2012 4pm

An evening of Indian and western dance with live music on Saturday, 15 September 2012 from 4.00pm at Hull City Hall, HU13RQ. For more information on this event, you can view the flyer here.  

Arco Charity Event - Dragon Boat Racing Day - 8 September 2012

For the last two years Arco has organised a dragon boat charity fundraising day, where all staff can enter a team into a race with the aim of raising sponsorship monies for a charity of their choice, plus the Top 3 winning teams can win prizes in the form of donations to their charity. This year’s event was held on 8 September at Loughborough Boat Club, with the whole Arco Group raising in excess of £30,000 for a variety of charities.

The National Distribution Site (Hessle), did particularly well in this event again, with all their teams in the top ten for racing, and Boat "Sandstorm" came first, so winning a £3,000 donation to Sands on top of the money they raised through sponsorship, giving a total of £3,660. A cheque for this amount was presented to Hull and East Riding of Yorkshire Sands in November 2012 and the cheque was received by Cheryl Kilby on behalf of Sands.

"Why 17" Sponsored Bike Ride in memory of Euan Johnson - 1 July 2012 10am

A 17 mile circular bike ride around the East Yorkshire countryside, starting and finishing in Driffield. Bob and Fiona Johnson have organised this event for the eve of their son, Euans third birthday in heaven, to raise awareness of Sands and the "Why 17?" campaign.

AGM - Get involved

Hull and East Yorkshire Sands had their first annual general meeting in the Humber Suite on Monday 12 March 2012, 19.30 - 22.30 at the Holiday Inn Hull Marina.

The committee will meet at least 3x a year, possibly more if we are organising events so you should be able to devote this time to the charity.

Kieron's sponsored haircut - 24 February 2012

Kieron Murray had his characteristic spiky fringe cut off in aid of Sands, Marie Curie and Ward 32 at Castle Hill Hospital, raising over £1,000 in total at The Mariners Pub, Eastgate South, Driffield on Friday, 24 February 2012. Well done and thank you!

Hull Sands Babyloss Memorial Blessing - 2 December 2011

Venue: Northern Cemetery Chanterlands Avenue, Hull
Date and time: Friday 2 December 2011 at 14.00 hours
 
A blessing by Minister Steven Wiley took place in the baby section of the cemetery to mark the placing of a new babyloss memorial, remembering  all babies in Hull & East Yorkshire who died before, during or soon after birth. The memorial has been paid for by funds raised at the Angels Ball in 2009, hosted by Cheryl & Andy Kilby and has been designed by Cheryl. It is one of five which will be placed with love in other cemeteries in the area: Priory, Eastern & Hedon Road in Hull and Queensgate in Beverley in the next few months. Please contact Cheryl for further details on 07519 512744.

Charity Fundraiser in aid of Sands and Diabetes Charity - 26 November 2011

The fundraiser was held at The Ringside, Beverley Road, Hull on Saturday 26th November. The money raised will be halved between Hull Sands a rare diabetes charity for more research. The funds raised are yet to be confirmed. 

15 October - International Baby Loss Awareness Day 

Come along and meet other local angel parents on Baby loss awareness day. Bring a balloon to release for your angel, or anything else that you would like to remember your angel by, perhaps you could put a message in a bottle and let it float down the humber! Afterwards anyone is welcome to join us in the Country Park Inn for a drink/lunch.

2011 Walk for Life - Hull and East Yorkshire region 

To mark June as national Sands awareness month, a group of us have decided to take part in this one mile sponsored walk round the Humber Bridge Country Park on Saturday 25 June 2011 at 10am. The walk started with a balloon release in memory of babies lost. £356 was raised and it has gone to the Hull and East Yorkshire Sands support group.

Kirsty, Chantelle, Danielle and Emma skydive for Hull Sands

Kirsty Shuttleworth and three other very scared but brave ladies took part in a sponsored skydive on Saturday 18 June 2011 in memory of Ruby Marie Taylor born sleeping on 13 November 2010. All funds raised, approximately £910, went to Hull Sands.

Annual charity walk in memory of George Leeman

Maria, Steve and Thomas Leeman arranged their annual charity walk for a third year running for Sunday 12 June 2011 and asked everyone to donate a £1 per person for Sands Hull/Women’s and Children’s Hospital for items such as memory boxes. Approximately £350 has been raised and the walk was a great success with continued support despite the rain. The proceeds have been split between Hull and East Yorkshire Sands and national Sands.

Alan Wilkinson's Great Midlands Fun Run

Alan Wilkinson ran the 8.5 mile long Great Midlands Fun Run around Sutton Hill, Birmingham on Sunday 5 June 2011. He raised £1,000 and donated all funds raised to Hull Sands in memory of Florence and Isaac Pontone.

Maria and Steve Leeman via Steve’s sister Sue and nephew Craig (whom both work for Waitrose) have arranged for Sands Hull to be one of Willerby Waitrose's charities of the month in May 2011 and won charity of the month and raised £410 for Hull Sands.

Danny & Mark's 10k Run

Danny Heard & Mark Parker took part in the Jane Tomlinson 10k run on Sunday 15 May 2011 in memory of Frazer Heard born sleeping on 3 October 2010. All funds, approximately £550, raised went to Hull Sands.

Hull & East Yorkshire Sands Charity hog roast & charity disco

Held at the KC Stadium on 27 November 2010 - With over a hundred guests we had a very enjoyable night with a hog roast, auction, raffle and live entertainment by Sean Finch. We raised over £2,000 for Sands.

International Baby Loss Awareness Day Balloon Release

Held on 15 October 2010, in Hull and Driffield, to commemorate International Baby Loss Awareness Day and raise awareness on baby loss.
